The Red Bull F1 team had an outing to forget at the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix. Max Verstappen managed his way to a P6 whereas Sergio Perez‘s outing was brought to an abrupt halt on the very first lap of the 78-lap race!
Haas’s Kevin Magnussen‘s contact from behind got Sergio Perez into a spin and the latter collided at high speed with the barriers. It was a hefty hit as the RB20 was in pieces and at the end of the whole incident, the front right and left tire of the Mexican’s car were totally gone!

After the end of the Monaco Grand Prix, Red Bull adviser, Helmut Marko admitted that it would cost the team a a lot of money to fix Perez’s RB20.
I was surprised how quickly [the Stewards] ticked off this incident, but unfortunately, these are decisions you can hardly influence. On one hand there is the danger from the collision] and on the other hand the damage of the car, which is about 2 to 3 million, a huge effect on our budget cap.Helmut Marko said in an interview with Sky Sports DE
The 80-year-old veteran has made it known that he was quite surprised that the Perez-Magnussen incident was pretty much deemed a racing incident. Moreover, he has also shed light on the negative effect Perez’s crash will have on the Milton-Keynes-based team’s budget cap.
Christian Horner’s take on his driver and Kevin Magnussen’s crash
While Marko has expressed his surprise with the swiftness with which Perez-Magnussen’s incident was dealt with by the race officials, the Red Bull boss, Christian Horner has also sided with him. The Brit genuinely feels that the officials could have had a thorough look around the incident.

Moreover, he has also indicated that Magnussen’s antics were just not acceptable.
I was surprised it wasn't investigated, because it was quite a hefty incident. Kevin had a wheel up the inside in a part of the track that only ever narrows, and you would have expected him to back out. Not only has he destroyed Checo's race and the car, he's also destroyed his teammate's race. So not very clever.Christian Horner said in his post race interview
The Red Bull F1 team was only able to come away with a mere eight points from the Monaco race weekend. This has had an extremely adverse impact on the 2024 Constructors Championship. As things stand, Ferrari is now only 24 points behind them and is closing in fast. The Canadian GP holds immense significance for Red Bull for a plethora of reasons.
