Max Verstappen‘s stellar victory at the Brazilian GP has brought the drivers’ championship to an exciting stage. Lando Norris was on par to contend for the world championship before but now has very slim chances of having a shot. Hence, the upcoming Las Vegas GP is extremely important for Norris in terms of his 2024 championship ambitions against Verstappen.
Heading into the antepenultimate race of the 2024 calendar, Max Verstappen has a whopping 62-point lead over Lando Norris. With just three races remaining and such a big deficit, Norris must step up his game to ensure his chances of winning the championship. Moreover, Daniel Ricciardo‘s help at the Singapore GP after stealing the fastest lap proved to be of great help for Verstappen.
Max Verstappen will be hailed the 2024 Drivers’ Champion if he finishes ahead of Norris at the final American race of the calendar. Also, if the Briton fails to score any points over the weekend and suffers from a DNF, Verstappen will win the championship.
Norris will be able to have a chance at the championship only if he finishes the race with a lead of three points or more from the leader. Hence, the stakes are extremely high for the 25-year-old and he must showcase a perfect performance to contend for the championship.
How does the F1 championship table look like ahead of the Las Vegas GP?
Both the championships are seemingly open for multiple teams and drivers to take. The competition has never been more cut-throat since the beginning of the ground-effect era. The Drivers’ Championship seems sparsely spread amongst the top with Verstappen leading the pack at 393 points. The Dutchman is followed by Lando Norris with 331 points, Charles Leclerc with 307 points, and Oscar Piastri with 262 points.
Position | Driver | Team | Points |
1 | Max Verstappen | Red Bull Racing | 393 |
2 | Lando Norris | McLaren | 331 |
3 | Charles Leclerc | Scuderia Ferrari | 307 |
4 | Oscar Piastri | McLaren | 262 |
5 | Carlos Sainz | Scuderia Ferrari | 244 |

8 | Sergio Perez | Red Bull Racing | 151 |
9 | Fernando Alonso | Aston Martin | 62 |
10 | Nico Hulkenberg | Haas | 31 |
However, on the contrary, the Constructors’ championship seems closer than the Drivers’ standings. McLaren’s dominant pace this season has enabled them to achieve over 593 points and lead the pack. Ferrari secures the runner-up currently with 557 points. Red Bull’s struggling pace has toppled the team off the top and in P3 with over 544 points. Hence, mathematically, the top three teams might have a shot at the constructors’ championship this season.
Rank | Constructor | Points |
1 | McLaren | 593 |
2 | Ferrari | 557 |
3 | Red Bull | 544 |
4 | Mercedes | 382 |

Regardless of the championship winners, the 2024 season peaked in excitement throughout the year. The sport enjoyed amazing moments of highs followed by some disappointing moments of lows. Despite the inclusion of over 24 races this season, the teams and drivers put up a great performance and appeared for each and every race, showcasing their sheer racing mettle.
