Mick Schumacher made a highly-anticipated debut in F1 in 2021 with Haas. The German driver was believed to be a future world champion after his impressive career in junior categories. However, Schumacher has been sitting on the sidelines since 2023. Now, former F1 champion Jacques Villeneuve reckoned that this would continue to be the case.
Schumacher is currently the reserve driver for Mercedes while also taking part in Alpine’s Hypercar program in the World Endurance Championship. The 25-year-old has made it clear that his aim is to get back to F1. However, neither Mercedes nor Alpine have shown interest in the German driver despite having a vacant seat for next season.
Jacques Villeneuve bluntly stated that no F1 team seemed to be eager to sign Mick Schumacher. The Canadian highlighted that no one was ready to jump through various hoops to obtain the services of the 25-year-old. Schumacher would need to opt out of his duties for both Mercedes and Alpine to get back on the grid full time.
It seems that no team wants Mick Schumacher to drive for them. Mick and his team lobbied, but nobody seems to jump through hoops to have him on their team.Jacques Villeneuve told IstantCasino.com
Jacques Villeneuve reveals the ‘problem’ for Mick Schumacher’s F1 return
It is highly unlikely for Mick Schumacher to get an F1 seat for 2025. Jacques Villeneuve highlighted the problem the German is facing. The ex-F1 champion pointed out that the 25-year-old’s career at the pinnacle of motorsport ended on a bad note with Haas. As such, teams are forced to ask themselves if they really wanted to take a risk on Schumacher.

The problem is that his F1 years have not ended positively... For teams it is worrying: do they want to take the risk of hoping Mick is better than he was? At the moment it doesn’t seem.
Jacques Villeneuve stated
Certainly, Mick Schumacher will continue to try and get back his place in Formula 1. The German driver remains hungry as ever to race in F1 and follow his father Michael Schumacher‘s reigns. However, it seems that the 25-year-old will need to remain patient and wait for at least another year before things could change in his favor.
