Williams Racing team principal James Vowles, has delivered a controversial take on Mercedes reserve driver Mick Schumacher. The German is the son of seven-time F1 world champion, Michael Schumacher.

Mick Schumacher has been longing to make a return to the F1 grid, having raced for Haas in 2021 and 2022. The 25-year-old was snubbed of a Williams seat in favour of Franco Colapinto until the end of the ongoing season.

James Vowles has since deemed Mick Schumacher as unworthy while explaining his decision to prefer Colapinto. Vowles clubbed both the drivers as good and not special ahead of the Italian Grand Prix.

So the decision is do we put Mick in the car, which I think Mick would have done a good job, or do we invest in an individual that's a part of our academy, that's done hundreds to thousands of laps in our simulator, that's driven the car, and on the data that we can see from how he's performing, who's making significant steps? I think both would fall into a category of good and not special. I think we have to be straightforward about this. Mick isn't special, he would just be good.

The former Haas driver currently competes in the World Endurance Championship for Alpine. Schumacher is quickly running out of options as only three seats are remaining on the grid for next year of F1.

Ex-F1 driver cites Audi’s possibility of signing Mick Schumacher

The chances are getting smaller and smaller. Only Audi really remains. Before they give Bottas a chance, who is driving around unmotivated at the back, they could also give Mick a chance.
Marc Surer said to Formel1.de

Surer cited the possibility of the German giants signing Mick Schumacher as a driver for the upcoming season. He claimed that Schumacher’s chances remain slim at the moment, with most teams having confirmed their lineups for 2025.

Ample young talents such as Oliver Bearman and Jack Doohan have made their way into the pinnacle of motorsport for 2025. Schumacher will also be in hopes of making the promotion to the main grid to race for Audi next year.
