Carlos Sainz has signed a multi-year contract with Williams amidst the summer break of the 2024 season. Multiple teams were eager to sign the Spaniard over his upturning performance in the season. However, the 29-year-old will join James Vowles at Williams and attempt to put forth the best possible results with the Grove-based constructor.
Mattia Binotto‘s entry to Audi made people believe that Carlos Sainz would consider teaming up with his former boss. However, James Vowles noted that Binotto’s move didn’t change Sainz’s decision to join Williams. Additionally, Vowles claimed that beating an OEM for acquiring the Spaniard was one of the proudest moments for the team principal.
What he described is Mattia joining hasn't changed his decision. You can now determine what he meant by that. In terms of beating an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers) and one of the largest in the world, I’m incredibly proud.James Vowles told racingnews365.com.
Additionally, the Briton highlighted that he had discussed these factors with Carlos Sainz already. Hence undertaking the Spaniard was the ‘proudest’ moment in Vowles’ career despite having multiple great moments. Apart from this, Sainz choosing Williams over any other possible teams was a monumental decision for Grove.
I said it to Carlos anyway, it’s one of the proudest moments of my career and I’ve had a lot of great moments in my career. And the fact he chose us above all else is a huge, huge, monumental decision.James Vowles added.
James Vowles claimed Williams will have ‘two best drivers in the world’ fighting at the forefront
Carlos Sainz will be paired up with Alex Albon in the coming season and form a highly capable pair. Upon this, James Vowles showered optimism and claimed that this was a ‘huge event’ for the team. Additionally, this was a sign of many more positive moments upcoming for the constructor in the coming years.
I think it's a huge, huge event for Williams, to have two of the best drivers in the world fighting in the front, And I think it is very much a sign of things to come - the fact that we are prepared to have the investment required to be there. A lot of it you can't see.James Vowles noted.
Williams has continued to put forth a rollercoaster of performance in the 2024 season with Logan Sargeant. Hence, the American driver will be ousted from the pinnacle of motorsport in the coming season to make way for Carlos Sainz. As a result, the 23-year-old will have to pick the pace up and attempt to score better results.
