Oscar Piastri couldn’t win the 2025 driver’s title following a dramatic performance slump in the final stages of the season. The Aussie led the title standings for quite some time before losing the title lead to Lando Norris and ultimately the title win. Now, ex-F1 driver, Juan Pablo Montoya has shared his thoughts on Piastri’s exit plans from the Papaya Squad in the near future.
Recently, ex-F1 champion Jacques Villeneuve had predicted that Oscar Piastri was certainly feeling terrible following his title loss in the 2025 season. Piastri even had to play the team game on multiple occasions and put himself at a disadvantage. Though the Aussie refused to play second fiddle in the final stages, it was far too late to recover his championship chances at that point.
Now, ex-F1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya has predicted that Oscar Piastri and Co. are definitely talking to another team on the grid. Piastri debuted in F1 in 2023 and still has a very long and fruitful career ahead of him. Many teams would be more than willing to acquire the nine-time race winner in their teams in the near future.
Juan Pablo Montoya reckoned that Oscar Piastri’s manager, Mark Webber, wasn’t satisfied with the former’s development at McLaren. Further, the Spaniard pointed out that Webber wasn’t very happy with McLaren and their treatment of Piastri either. However, Montoya questioned whether the Aussie was happy with Woking’s current state or not, which was the main question.
I guarantee you that Oscar Piastri and Mark Webber [his manager] are already talking to another F1 team, I don’t think Mark Webber was satisfied with Oscar’s development at McLaren. Mark isn’t very happy with McLaren. But the question is whether Oscar is very unhappy with McLaren.
Juan Pablo Montoya said, as reported by RacingNews365.
Juan Pablo Montoya reveals Mark Webber’s ‘scars’ shouldn’t hurt Oscar Piastri
Mark Webber finished his career with massive what-ifs as he couldn’t quite win his maiden driver’s title. Despite achieving nine race wins over his career with Red Bull, he could never win the championship.

Even Webber had to play second fiddle to Sebastian Vettel, who was dominating at the time. Hence, after quitting the sport without any title wins, Juan Pablo Montoya reckoned that Oscar Piastri shouldn’t become the ‘next Mark Webber’.
Juan Pablo Montoya hopes that Mark Webber’s scars do not creep into Oscar Piastri’s mindset and career. Montoya noted that the manager-driver duo needed to be careful. Further, Webber’s scars shouldn’t have anything to do with Piastri, and he shouldn’t switch teams too early and start suffering from a performance slump.
I think they need to be careful and make sure that Webber’s scars from his time as a race car driver have nothing to do with Oscar’s career.
Juan Pablo Montoya noted
McLaren has emerged as one of the greatest teams in terms of performance in the final years of the ground-effect era. However, the coming regulations are a big unknown, and none of the teams seems to be the clear favorite yet.
For now, Woking will hope to replicate their recent performances and keep up with their championship-winning form. Moreover, Zak Brown is sure that Oscar Piastri will certainly win a driver’s title sooner or later in his F1 career.
