Kimi Raikkonen is known as a Formula 1 racing driver who competed for Sauber, Mclaren, Ferrari, Lotus and Alfa Romeo between 2001 to 2021. He won the 2007 Formula 1 world championship while driving for Ferrari. The runner-up that year was Lewis Hamilton, who is now a seven-time world champion. Räikkönen is also famously known as “The Iceman.”
Kimi Raikkonen earned this nickname because of his unique persona. While the other drivers on the grid were often stressed about something going on while racing he was usually calm and composed. His interviews were usually direct and he answered on point to the questions thrown at him. There are several incidents which justify his nickname.
In 2013, the Finnish driver who was then racing for Lotus Formula 1 team had an encounter with Matt LeBlanc, famously known as Joey Tribbiani from Friends. It was a short exchange between Räikkönen and LeBlanc regarding the Lotus F1 car. In the video, Matt LeBlanc can be seen asking the driver a few questions to which he responds, “I don’t know,” and the clip ends with Räikkönen saying, “Just leave me alone I know what I’m doing”. Any fan who has been watching the sport long enough will know the significance of that phrase.

In 2012, November, during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Kimi yelled, “Just leave me alone I know what I’m doing,” over the radio when his Lotus race engineer Simon Rennie was giving him instructions. He did end up winning the Grand Prix. Kimi is usually known for his funny radio messages. There were tee shirts with that slogan distributed around the paddock and till this day, it is one of the most iconic phrases in Formula 1.
Kimi Räikkönen’s funny endeavours were way ahead of his time, although it was a serious conversation during the race with his race engineer, the fans found it amusing and the memes were born even before it was really a thing. Räikkönen is one of the fastest drivers ever to have driven in Formula 1 without any doubt. At the end of 2021 after driving for Alfa Romeo, Kimi retired from Formula 1. His contributions to the sport will not be forgotten, his name in the sport holds legendary status.
