Visa Cash App RB driver Liam Lawson was involved in a heated tussle with Red Bull’s Sergio Perez at the 2024 Mexican GP. The 22-year-old was desperately trying to overtake Perez and ended up gesturing with a middle finger during the battle.
Liam Lawson has since apologized to Sergio Perez for the obscene gesture at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez racing circuit. He has also claimed that his father was upset with his actions against the senior Milton-Keynes-based team’s driver.
Lawson has nervelessly appreciated his father for being a constant inspiration to him through the years. The 22-year-old has said that his father has instilled a sense of professionalism in him while racing in Formula 1.
My dad told me off, yeah, as my dad has done many times over the years. [I’m] very fortunate to have someone like my dad who has played a massive role in, obviously, raising me as a man, but also as a driver, growing up and trying to be professional in the sport. He’s kept me very grounded, I would say, and that’s been something that he’s done since I was a kid. So, you know, he wasn’t impressed with that, and I completely understand why. And obviously, as I said, it’s not something I should have done. I’ll learn from it.

Lawson currently remains without a seat on the grid for the upcoming season. Rumors have aired of the 22-year-old replacing Perez at Red Bull in the coming years. However, nothing has yet been set in stone, which means that Lawson needs to continue performing better.

Perez has nevertheless iterated on his wish to stay at the Milton-Keynes-based team despite his struggles. The 34-year-old has reportedly turned down a few offers from other teams as well during the course of the current campaign.
The Mexican has a contract with Red Bull until the end of 2026. He must nonetheless perform in order to justify his contract. Having not delivered good results so far, his only aim will now be to pick up the pace and win races for the Milton-Keynes-based team.
