The Williams F1 team has showcased a tumultuous performance in the 2024 season after sparsely scoring points ahead of the summer break. However, despite the uncertainty in performance, the team has bagged Carlos Sainz into their arsenal. Ex-F1 driver Marc Surer has spoken ill of the Grove-based constructor and their performances in recent times.
Marc Surer shared his thoughts on the entire matter of Williams acquiring Carlos Sainz for the coming season. The Swiss driver believed that Sainz’s entry wouldn’t grant a surety of the team improving in performance.
Additionally, Surer claimed that Grove got worse in performance this season under James Vowles‘ leadership.
Why should they suddenly get so much better now? They have become worse this year, you must not forget that!Marc Surer told Formel1.de
Apart from this, Marc Surer wasn’t mincing his words while talking about the downfall of Williams under Vowles. Surer highlighted that the team boss was ‘over-estimated’ in the team. James Vowles came into the team and swooped the works of Jost Capito to take the team to a better height. The Briton received the praise without any realistic work from him according to the Swiss.
I have often said that James Vowles is simply over-estimated. Jost Capito built a car with his people. James Vowles came to Williams, took the car, and they drove fully into the points. All the praises went to James Vowles, not the one who built the car. Now, the car is too heavy and too slow.Marc Surer added
Marc Surer doubts if Williams would be ‘better’ with Carlos Sainz
Williams has great hopes for Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon to take the team to monumental in the coming season. However, aiming to compete at the forefront is a far-fetched goal for the team as pointed out by Marc Surer. The Swiss claimed that the team could score better points with Sainz. Although Williams could score great points, they won’t be able to get involved in the front.
I would doubt next year will be any better with Williams. Points yes, but getting involved in the front? I don't think so.Marc Surer noted
Logan Sargeant‘s woeful performances have made the team lose a lot of running in the constructors’ championship. Hence, the pair-up between Albon and Sainz would put forth highly interesting contingencies for the Grove-based constructor. Time will tell about how the Spaniard fares against everyone’s hopes for him at Williams.
