All eyes were set on the local hero Oscar Piastri to perform well at the season opener Australia GP. Following Piastri’s disappointing title loss in 2025, he was expected to start the year off with a bang. However, the Aussie crashed into the barriers before the race could even begin and thus ended his race during the practice race start.

Now, McLaren’s Andrea Stella opens up on the situation and reveals his true opinion. Oscar Piastri’s crash forced him to sit out of the race, and he walked out of the weekend with zero points and a massive embarrassment in front of the home crowd. Though he did not comment much on the matter during the post-race interview, but the disappointment was visible on his face.

Andrea Stella accepted that the crash and the entire situation was very unfortunate for Oscar Piastri. The Italian continued that it was definitely a tough moment for him, especially in front of the home crowd. Stella pointed out that Piastri is a very tough person mentally, and did not take the blunder as a sign of personal failure, rather as a one-off mistake which he surely wouldn’t repeat ever again.

Very unfortunate, Definitely a tough moment for him in front of the Australian crowd. Oscar, let me spend a word from this point of view, Very tough guy mentally. He will use all this to get even more concentrated and determined starting from China.

Andrea Stella said, as reported by motorsport.com.

Speaking on Oscar Piastri‘s mental state after such a massive blunder, Andrea Stella reassured him that the entire McLaren crew would be with him. The team hoped to move on from the matter, while being united and make Piastri feel a part of the squad despite the situation. Certainly, it would be very reassuring for the Aussie to have such a great support system behind him in Formula 1.

We will make sure that we all face this in a united way. We are a team in any situation that may involve any of our team.

Oscar Piastri added.

Oscar Piastri reveals ‘greater disappointment’ from 2026 Australian GP blunder

Oscar Piastri had far from positive comments following his blunder at the Australian GP. The Aussie suffered from similar situation in the previous Aussie GP, where he spun out on the track and lost all positions. However, he recovered very well and ultimately finished in P9. But, this year was certainly far more disappointing than the last time around.

Comparing the previous Australian GP to this time around, he accepted that a P9 finish was something that he did not want. He wanted to win the race, especially after McLaren’s dominant pace. However, this year, the disappointment was certainly far more. Regardless, Piastri saw the positives from the matter and insisted that up until the race, things went pretty smoothly.

I think last year, whilst the result wasn’t what I wanted, I felt like there was a lot of positives from the weekend, I think this year, obviously, the disappointment is even greater. But I think up until today, we did a lot of things well. I think we clearly identified some things we need to change and do a better job at. But I think through practise and qualifying, I felt pretty comfortable, as comfortable as you can do in these cars.

Oscar Piastri said, as reported by motorsport.com.

Oscar Piastri walked out of the weekend with zero point and has suffered from a massive disadvantage in his championship running. George Russell eked out better performance than the rivals and brought home the race win. However, Piastri must ensure that he doesn’t suffer from such blunders ever again as he is now in his fourth year in Formula 1.
