Aston Martin has continued to acquire multiple key assets within the team to improve their condition in terms of performance. The team initially secured a deal with Honda for power units followed by poaching Adrian Newey from Red Bull. The Silverstone-based constructor seems prepared to take up the challenge of contending for the world championship. However, ahead of Newey’s debut, Aston’s chief trackside officer Mike Krack highlighted the ‘main problem’ ahead of the aero genius’ arrival.

Adrian Newey has achieved monumental success with multiple teams in Formula 1 in the past. Newey’s recent successful campaign with Red Bull in 2023 was more than enough for Aston Martin to bank major hopes on him. As a result, Mike Krack revealed that the main problem for the Englishman was that he was successful at his current position with Milton Keynes. Due to this, everyone will expect nothing less than what he achieved with the Austrian team.

That is the main problem for Adrian [Newey], isn’t it, that where he is [at any given time] is successful, and nobody expects anything less from his arrival at Aston Martin.

Mike Krack told RacingNews365.com.

Apart from Newey’s racecraft, Aston Martin must also work on other factors of the team’s performance on the grid. This meant that the team must improve strategic decisions and ensure no errors in the same. Krack believed that the team couldn’t be run by one man as Silverstone must get the maximum from the latter’s experience and intuition.

Now, we know also that Formula 1 these days cannot be run by one man, so we have to set ourselves up so that we can get the maximum from his knowledge, from his experience, from his intuition, and facilitate that.

Adrian Newey to ‘unearth’ his strong suit within Aston Martin

Newey’s exceptional understanding of the ground-effect era might help Aston Martin get up to speed as soon as the 2025 season. Mike Krack noted that the 65-year-old will unearth his capabilities with the team. However, Aston Martin mustn’t expect the aero genius to go into every little detail of the chassis. Hence, the Silverstone-based constructor looks up to extract maximum benefit from the technical wizard.

He has the possibility to unearth where he’s best at [within the team]. If we expect him to go into the detail of every little bolt, we have not made best use of his capabilities. So I think for us, at the moment, in the lead-up to his arrival, these are the questions that we have to ask ourselves. How do we set ourselves up to get the maximum out of the experience, the creativity and excellence [Newey brings]?

Mike Krack noted

Aston Martin’s performance in the 2024 season was mediocre at best due to troubles with straight-line speed. The team might just score a massive turnaround in performance in the coming season under Newey’s brilliance. Hence, time will tell about how the aero-genius promotes Silverstone to a team worthy of fighting for the championship.
