A 13-year-old motorcycling prodigy from Bengaluru, Copparam, Shreyas Hareesh, passed away from injuries sustained in an on-track mishap. This happened during the third round of the MRF MMSC FMSCI Indian National Motorcycling Racing Championship 2023 on Saturday at the Madras International Circuit close to Chennai. Shreyas Hareesh qualified on the pole for the TVS Rookie Race shortly after the collision happened. He collapsed as he was leaving Turn 1, and the organisers have confirmed that he died from a catastrophic head injury. The 13-year-old was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, but upon arrival, he was declared dead.
The MMSC president Ajit Thomas said, “It is tragic to have lost a rider so young and talented. Shreyas, who was making waves with his prodigious racing talent, was provided medical assistance on the spot immediately after the incident and taken to the hospital. Under the circumstances, we have decided to cancel the rest of this weekend’s programme. The MMSC offers heartfelt condolences and our thoughts are with his family.”
Tragic Loss: 13-Year-Old MiniGP World Series India Champion Shreyas Hareesh Remembered

Hareesh was a rising star in the Indian two-wheeler racing scene. He even recently moved one step closer to his MotoGP goals by winning the Indian leg of the MiniGP championship and riding for India in the global finals. Also planned for later this year was his participation in the Malaysia Superbike Championship.
After participating in several local races, Hareesh finally got his big break in 2021 when he made his INMRC debut. Hareesh was the youngest Indian to ever compete in and win races in the championship when the age restriction was lowered from 13 years to 11 years. The racing world will forever remember Hareesh, his talent, and the mark it will leave for others.
