A Breakdown of the huge FAT paycheck sent to Alpine for Oscar Piastri fiasco
Oscar Piastri
It hasn’t been the best start to the weekend exactly for the Alpine F1 team as they struggled with their dispute with former reserve driver Oscar Piastri. When Fernando Alonso announced that he will he parting ways with the French team, they immediately announce Piastri as their driver.
A few hours later, the Aussie put out a statement saying that he had not signed any contract. This situation further escalated and created a lot of underlying drama . Alpine believed that Oscar was to race for them next season and that what he did was a breach of his contract.
Oscar Piastri’s intentions were never to join Alpine in the first place. It was clear that the Aussie was going to join Mclaren F1 and replace Daniel Ricciardo who was parting ways with the team. The Contract Recognition Board or CRB for short solves the disputes between drivers and the contracts and they intervened this time.
A hearing took place on Monday after the Belgian Grand Prix and we got to know the outcome today. The CRB ruled in favour of Piastri and made it clear that the F2 champion was allowed to race for McLaren in the 2023 and 2024 season. The moment that the CRB announcement took place, McLaren went on to confirm the Piastri as their driver for next season. This left Alpine F1 team with a bitter taste in their mouth.
Having invested so many resources in his junior career, it was a big hit for Alpine as they lost their junior and reserve driver to McLaren. Oscar Piastri didn’t get the chance and was not given much importance which made him take this decision. On top of this, Alpine F1 team were hit with the low down on Piastri’s CRB cost order which they will have to pay. It is a very big amount which Alpine could have avoided but is now forced to pay. This must have definitely infuriated the higher ups in the team.

Alpine F1 team to pay McLaren £229,965 as instructed by the Contract Recognition Board
Alpine F1 team will have to shell out a big stack of cash as the proceedings did not go in his favour. With two massive checks going to McLaren and Oscar Piastri respectively. Also during the course of the week, each member of the Tribunal independently informed the board that their charge out rate would be £1,000 an hour.
Currently the team has been ordered to pay for the proceedings and the lawyers which has not turned out to be what the team expected. The tweet above has the details of the exact amount that Alpine has to pay to each and every party.
In the end it is all a bit iffy when it comes to contract disputes. Alpine F1 team argued and lost and ended up having to pay money to a team that ultimately stole their driver from them. The team released a statement saying that what happened has happened and that they will move on and refuse to talk any further about the whole situation.
