Liam, a reserve driver for the Scuderia AlphaTauri team, made his Debut in F1 replacing the injured Daniel Ricciardo. Ricciardo’s crash came at the Dutch GP and Liam Lawson took over in the same Grand Prix. The 21-year old has failed to score in his first two Grands Prix but looks to do so soon as he claims to settle for nothing less than a full-time seat.

The rookie claimed, according to Planet F1, that he can settle for nothing less as he dips toes into the World Championship. “I think now that…I’d say now that I’ve had a taste, it’s definitely something I’ve fallen in love with and I don’t think I can settle for anything less”, claimed Lawson. Liam’s future in the Paddock seems unsure as Ricciardo is expected to return to the helm soon after his recovery.

With Sauber announcing contract extensions for Zhou Guanyu and Valtteri Bottas ahead of the Singapore GP, there remain only 3 vacant seats for 2024. 2 of those seats are at AlphaTauri and the rookie will hope to beat Yuki Tsunoda and the veteran Daniel Ricciardo to one of those.

Marko commented on the Rookie’s performance and his chances in Formula 1. “Liam has been with us for a while. He is a tough but very smart man in a fight, a bit like Bruce McLaren. This is certainly someone for the future.” remarked The Red Bull motorsport advisor. When asked about Lawson’s future, Helmut Marko told ServusTV “Will he get a [full-time] seat instead of [staying] a reserve driver? That could happen quickly.”

Lawson is currently signed under Red Bull’s programme and these comments from Helmut will only boost the youngster’s spirits. With doors to a full-time seat still open for next season, it’ll be interesting how the rookie performs this weekend at the Marina Bay circuit.
