Franz Tost has been a respected figure in the F1 community for years now, mentoring junior drivers as Team Principal of the Red Bull sister team AlphaTauri/Toro Rosso. Tost retired after the 2023 season, after having worked with the team since the 2006 season.
Tost has exited from Formula 1 as a whole, with no affiliations to any team ahead of the 2024 season. However, the Austrian former team principal wants to change this, inspired by Helmut Marko‘s contract renewal until 2026. Tost is hopeful for a potential consultancy role with Red Bull in the future.
I will always remain linked to motorsport, so I can definitely imagine a consultancy role.Franz Tost said, via formulapassion.it
Franz Tost has harboured many talents currently on the Formula 1 grid, some of whom commended his contribution to their careers after he announced his retirement. Tost has been replaced at the now-rebranded AlphaTauri by Laurent Mekies, Ferrari’s former sporting director.
Franz Tost says he could never be an F1 pundit
Franz Tost is retiring from Formula 1 managerial positions entirely, planning to live the rest of his years out in a more relaxed environment. However, there are still some paths via which the 67-year-old can remain connected with the sport.

Tost has dismissed one such opportunity, claiming he could never be an F1 pundit. Due to the career’s requirements of providing a neutral view on the sport, Tost feels his extreme opinions could get in the way of providing a fair judgement to viewers.
That’s definitely not my thing. I would have to give too many political answers. That is not my strength. And many people couldn’t live with the truth.Franz Tost said, via PlanetF1
Franz Tost built his career in racing management on a very strong foundation, which many are not aware of. Tost competed in Formula Ford and Formula Three when he was young, winning the Austrian Formula Ford Championship in 1983 before making his entry into Formula One as an employee.
