Alex Albon to miss Italian GP due to appendicitis; Nyck de Vries named his replacement

Alex Albon has had nothing short of a blistering F1 career. He had to take a break in 2021 due to a lack of seat in the highest league of motorsports, and he came back in 2022, to drive for Williams, after George Russell left the team to partner Lewis Hamilton in Mercedes. Albon has been doing a good job in the British team. The Thai rider has put in some amazing performances this season in a Williams with his amazing qualifying place and his performance in the long runs with regards to a race scenario.

About an hour ago, Williams Racing put out a statement regarding Alex Albon and his situation. The team revealed that the Thai driver was feeling sick in the morning and sought medical help from the team doctors. After which he went to further receive assistance from the FIA doctors. After that he was shifted to the hospital wherein after a few tests, it was revealed that Alex had appendicitis and that it will need surgery.

This meant that Albon wouldn’t be able to take part in the race weekend which came as a massive surprise to the team and the driver which meant that Williams had a job on their had for finding a replacement.

Although that won’t be a problem as Williams have found a replacement for Alex Albon in the name of Dutch driver Nyck De Vries. It was revealed that he was having coffee in the Mercedes hospitality when he was informed about the news shortly before the public announcement was made. It was unfortunate that the Thai driver had this happen to him in the midst of the race weekend. Here is what he had to say about this unfortunate situation.

Alex Albon put out a light message on twitter where he described the pros and cons of his condition. “Appendicitis, surgery and no racing isn’t what I was expecting this weekend,” he said.

He further continued on twitter.

It’s great to see that Alex Albon is in the condition to joke at least and that he’s a good sport about it. With Alex not available, Willliams decided to put Nyck De Vries in the car so it will be crucial for him to get a good result to prove that he is worthy of a seat in the sport. With many drivers taking engine penalties for Monza, the team is in a good position to score some points.
