Alex Palau’s name has been making the rounds in the world of motorsports for quite some time but it has picked up a lot of heat since his tussle with the Zak Brown-led McLaren team went public. Palou held behind-the-door talks with some F1 teams regarding a 2024 seat with him already having an agreement in place with Arrow McLaren racing in IndyCar.
The whole Zak Brown-Alex Palou saga was all over the web and amassed a lot of negative publicity for both parties. However, while the saga has taken a back seat for the moment, Palou has admitted that the window for him to secure a seat at the pinnacle of motor racing is closing pretty fast.
While shedding light on the same in detail, he told Soymotor, “I don’t think another opportunity will come, because I am getting older for the world of F1. We will wait, we will continue to win as much as we can in IndyCar and if an opportunity comes, it will be welcome; If he doesn’t come, nothing happens, we will continue trying to add victories and championships in IndyCar.”
“The door has not closed, not at all. But it is not the same to be 27 years old – next year – and have to wait two more years… than to be 21 years old. I don’t think the door has closed 100% %, but I’m not waiting for it to arrive either. I know that the moment may already have passed. With the year 2021 and this one, if an opportunity has not come, it will be difficult to repeat a season like this one,” he added.

Alex Palou is believed to have held talks with AlphaTauri and Williams F1
While Alex Palou believes that the door toward F1 is closing pretty fast for him, it is a common belief that quite recently he held talks regarding a 2024 seat with the lights of Williams and the Faenza-based AphaTauri F1 team. Both parties were interested and the situation could develop further in the upcoming months.
Alex Palou has a lot of pedigree as a racing driver and during the few tests he had with McLaren F1 some time ago, he was quite impressive and even amassed a lot of praise from Zak Brown and Co. However, since then he has fallen a bit off the F1 radar as the Papaya team has managed to assemble the best pair of young drivers on the current grid.
Alex Palou is determined to find a racing seat in F1 for the 2024 season but in case he is not able to achieve his target, he feels he won’t be extremely disappointed as his goal to drive an F1 car has already been achieved. Palou has the racecraft to do well in F1 and the upcoming months could decide his fate for next year.
