Alfa Romeo Sauber have been a strong presence in the mid-field over the past decade. With an array of dependable drivers and efficient management, fans have grown to expect more from the Swiss outfit. Alfa Romeo have produced respectable results over the past 4 seasons, although their strongest performance over the course of a season came in 2022 when they finished 6th over-all. Thus marking the highest finishing position for Alfa Romeo since their return to Formula One in 2019.

Lately, Alfa Romeo have shown great ambition and set out major goals for the future. This is apparent by their recruitment of former McLaren Team Principal, Andreas Seidl as their CEO. Seidl was appointed as the CEO of the Sauber group in mid December. This move came after former Alfa Romeo CEO and Team Principal Frédéric Vasseur joined Scuderia Ferrari as the new boss.

Seidl took reigns of the Sauber group in January. In one of his first moves as CEO, Seidl has appointed Managing Director of Sauber Group, Alessandro Alunni Bravi, also as Team Representative. Bravi has been part of the Sauber group since 2017. He will be responsible for representing the team in all official functions at race weekends and away from the track. Bravi will manage his duties as Managing Director along with his new role.

In a recent press release, Alfa Romeo announced the appointment of their new Team Representative. Managing Director Alessandro Bravi will be responsible for all on and off track duties relating to day-to-day functioning of the team. Bravi will effectively be tasked with all the duties of a Team Principal, without the revered title. According to reports, Alfa Romeo do not intent to appoint a Team Principal at all.

The responsibilities of running the team will be split between the pair. While Seidl will manage the growth of the Sauber group and plan for the future, Bravi will ensure effective functioning by working together with the technical and operational departments. In the press release, Alfa Romeo stated,” The decision will see Alunni Bravi, in his additional role, work together with the technical and operational departments to continue the team’s growth and success, while delivering to internal and external stakeholders of the team the value Alfa Romeo F1 Team has been known to produce.”

“Alunni Bravi’s assumption of the Team Representative role will mark a definite step forward for Alfa Romeo F1 Team and the Sauber Group as a whole, allowing Andreas Seidl to focus on his objective of further growth of the Sauber Group, ensuring success in the short term and preparing the team for its exciting future.” The announcement concluded.

The last time a team operated without a defined Team Principal was in 2021. The Alpine F1 team appointed Davide Brivio as it’s racing director and promoted Marcin Budkowski to the post of Director. Alfa Romeo’s ambitions to reinvigorate their Formula One challenge is a well received endeavor by supporters and fans . It will be interesting to see if the restructuring can prove to be beneficial for the Swiss team.
