Franz Tost, the AlphaTauri Team Principal, has been associated with the pinnacle of motor racing for several years. He is the backbone of the Faenza-based team and has recently discussed why he has no children. According to him, he has always kept work as his top priority over everything else.

Franz Tost while talking about his decision ahead of the Canadian GP, said, “No, I don’t have children. I told my wife from the beginning that I don’t want children because I don’t have time for them. For me, work comes first, not family. Work is all that interests me. That’s why I made immediately clear not to want children. I wanted to remain flexible.”

Looking back, my professional career would not have been possible with a family and children. For example, I lived in Salzburg when I worked for Walter Lechner. Then I was Stuttgart. I worked also years before Willi Weber. Among other things, we were in Japan for a year and a half. Then I was in Munich and now in Italy.

Tost has made it known that had he plunged into the responsibilities that come with children; he would not have been able to maintain a good work-life balance. The demands of his job have made him move from place to place, and thus, he felt that it was better not to have any children. He is stepping down from the position of AlphaTauri’s Team Principal role at the end of the ongoing campaign.

Franz Tost has played a crucial role in the success that the Red Bull sister team has so far experienced, and keeping this in view, he further said, “You can’t do that with children. You have a certain responsibility. I didn’t want to bring children into the world, knowing I wouldn’t have time anyway. It wouldn’t help them and it would limit me. For me, motorsport and F1 were the first priority. Everything else didn’t really interest me.”

Looking at how passionately the 67-year-old has talked about the pinnacle of motor racing, his goodbye at the end of the 2023 F1 season is going to be an extremely hard pill for him to swallow. AlphaTauri’s AT04 has not proved competitive so far in the season, and it is going to be up to Tost to sprinkle his magic one last time so that the team can move upward in the Constructors’ standings.

Taking into account that Tost is in his last season in F1, the onus is going to be more on the drivers and the rest of the crew to do everything possible in their power to make the rest of the campaign a memorable one for the Austrian. However, it is easier said than done, considering how the midfield is this year.
