Alpine in ‘utter disbelief’ after Oscar Piastri’s shock announcement
Oscar Piastri
Alpine has become the talk of the town recently but things have now gone up a notch with the controversial announcement of Oscar Piastri denying the French team’s claim of joining them for the 2023 season.
In the early hours of the morning yesterday, rumors of Oscar Piastri having reached an agreement with McLaren were making the rounds, and to tackle the situation, Alpine came up with its statement of signing the 21-year-old.
However, the young Australian was quick to dismiss the team’s stance via his Twitter handle and came up with a statement which made it known that he has not signed a contract with them, and to add further fuel to the story, he blatantly said that he is not going to drive for Alpine in 2023.
McLaren has been very much interested in securing the services of the 21-year-old and as per rumors, it is believed that they have reached an agreement in the last 24 hours.
Oscar Piastri is managed by Mark Webber and it seems the duo has been busy this month in assessing their options and what McLaren has proposed appeals the most to them.
Alpine’s response to Oscar Piastri’s announcement
Alpine fans all over the world were relieved to see Piastri join Alpine for 2023, however, Piastri has got other plans and when the team was asked to give its thoughts on the situation, the Enstone-based team said, “we believe we’re legally correct in our statement but don’t have anything further to say.”
The French team is in total chaos at the moment and after seeing the shenanigans that have taken place, it is almost certain that the goodwill between Oscar and the hierarchy at Alpine is completely destroyed.
Alpine has lost two-star drivers in a span of a few days and the situation at the moment is not looking great for the French team. Moreover, the drama has just begun and the way things are going, it won’t come as a big surprise if there are more curve balls thrown each other’s way by Piastri and Alpine.
Would Alpine be able to keep a hold of Oscar Piastri? Or should they just let him leave considering he does not want to continue with them next year?
