Apline hoped to build on the fourth-place finish in the Constructor’s Championship in 2022 and be a race-win contender in 2023. The team is yet to fulfill those promises. Team boss Laurent Rossi is utterly disappointed with the team’s “amateurish” performance so far this season, with just eight points and sitting in sixth on the charts.
The season didn’t start well for the France-based team, as F1 stalwart Fernando Alonso left, and they were only left with Esetban Ocon. Later on, Pierre Gasly joined his compatriot. The team was expected to challenge Ferrari and Mercedes in 2023. But they have been terrible as execution is off on and off tarck.
He also highlighted his team’s performance as fundamental, stating that he did not like the first grand prix. Moreover, he mentioned that “I see that, of course, there is a lack of performance and a lack of rigor in the execution.”

Alpine hasn’t learned from their past mistakes

With the lackluster performance of his team this season, Rossi did not pull any punches while talking to the French outlet Canal+. The Alpine CEO stated, “This year ended up starting with a flawed performance and flawed delivery.” Moreover, addressing his team’s poor performance so far, he said, “This year ended up starting with a flawed performance and flawed delivery.”
With Baku’s memory still fresh in the minds of all the Alpine members, the lack of good performance on the track can’t be avoided for now, as showcased in Bahrain, where Esteban Ocon received three penalties during the race. In the Miami Grand Prix, however, Gasly and Ocon finished in respectable fifth and 8th spots. Handing them a chance to recover some ground during race day.
Rossi said, And then the last race in Baku looked very similar to Bahrain.” He added that it is unacceptable for a team to have injected the amount of resources they have injected and be where they are right now. According to him, they should be doing way better. Additionally, Rossi pointed out that they have not learned from their past mistakes: “We have the right to make mistakes; you need to learn from your mistakes.”
However, that’s not the case with Alpine, and Rossi acknowledged that, saying, “When you make same mistakes twice, it means you haven’t learned,” and stated that it is unacceptable for him and the team. As per the weather reports, it won’t be sunny this Sunday during the race. There’s a high chance of rain, making things even trickier for the racers.
