Nyck de Vries and Nicholas Latifi
The Italian Grand Prix was not without its excitement and drama and the fans enjoyed every moment of it. It was especially a memorable one for Nyck De Vries as he replaced Alex Albon to drive alongside Nicholas Latifi to make his official F1 debut in a race.
The fans were thrilled to see De Vries‘ performance as he scored points for Williams on his debut and was crowned driver of the day by the people. However, his amazing performance was unfortunate for Nicholas Latifi, who has been unable to score any points for the team and has now dropped down to 21st in a 20-driver championship.
This piece of news has stirred rumors among the fans as to whether Latifi will be replaced by De Vries next season, since the 27-year-old Canadian driver has been unable to score a point for the team since the start of the season making the Dutchman look like the better option at the moment.
F1 fans mock Nicholas Latifi after he drops down to 21st in a 20 place driver championship
Nyck De Vries replaced Alex Albon for the Italian Grand Prix since the British driver had to be admitted for appendicitis surgery. The 27-year-old Dutchman performed exceptionally in his debut F1 race, scoring points for Williams and this made him an instant favourite among the fans.
F1 fans have gone on Twitter and Reddit after the Italian Grand Prix to mock Nicholas Latifi after De Vries scored points in his debut race dropping Latifi’s place on the leaderboard. They believe that Williams are only keeping him around for the money and one fan went as as far to mock the team saying, “Imagine paying 30 millions a year for the privilege of being humiliated like this before an international audience.”
Other fans have also taken to Reddit to express their opinions, one user commented, “Driving 14 races more than Nyck, have 2 less points, great driver.” The mockery doesn’t end there with the flood of comments with majority fans agreeing with user ‘onlinepresenceofdan’ who commented: “Latifi is like a stone pulling williams down.” While user ‘BrownSugarBare’ said “No, no. He’s the financial backing Williams needs. Daddy Latifi about to make a large donation to keep that seat for his baby boy.“
The only comment moderately in support of Latifi was posted by user ‘FartingBob’ who posted saying “They would be last without him as well, but also they would be last and poor.”
With 6 races left on the calendar, if the 27-year-old Canadian wishes to keep a seat in F1 next year he must step and score points for the team and himself.
