BREAKING: Sebastian Vettel announces retirement at the end of 2022 F1 season

In a drastic turn of events, four-time F1 champion Sebastian Vettel has decided to hang up his helmet at the end of the current season. The German made his F1 debut back in 2007, and has competed at the top level for the last 15 years.

Although, Sebastian Vettel’s decision to retire at the end of the season would surely hurt several F1 fans, yet it was somewhat anticipated. The veteran driver has not been in his best shape over the past couple of years, hinting that a retirement was just around the corner.

Sebastian Vettel will always be remembered for his four dominant years in F1, when he claimed back-to-back world championship titles with Red Bull from 2010-2013.

Sebastian Vettel made his decision to retire just a couple of days before the Hungarian GP. This should give Aston Martin enough time to screen potential candidates to replace the four-time F1 champion.

In an Instagram post, Vettel explained his decision to end his 15-year-long career. “Being a racing driver has never been my sole identity. I very much believe in identity by who we are and how we treat others rather than what we do,” wrote Vettel.

Aston Martin Team Principal Mike Krack had earlier stated that he would love to have Sebastian Vettel onboard for a couple of more years. He heaped praise on the retiring German, and how the team have learned from him during his stay at Aston Martin.

“Sebastian is a superb driver – fast, intelligent and strategic – and of course we are going to miss those qualities. However, we have all learned from him, and the knowledge that we have gained from working with him will continue to benefit our team long after…,” said Krack.
