Canadian GP 2022: Charles Leclerc given 10-place grid PENALTY after taking new Control Electronics
Charles Leclerc
Charles Leclerc who has been the talk of the town ever since arriving in Montreal has now finally been given a 10-place grid penalty for adding a new Control Electronics on his F1-75.
Since the start of this week, there were rumors flying about Charles Leclerc getting penalties and all the rumors picked even more speed when it was revealed that Ferrari’s Baku engine was beyond repair.
The 10-place grid penalty is something that was envisioned by many analysts of the sport as they believed that Leclerc in most likeliness was going to get a penalty for a new PU, but as things stand now the Monegasque has been given the grid penalty for taking a new CU for his car.
The news of Ferrari taking a new CU on Leclerc’s car was shared by formularacers through their Twitter handle where they wrote, “Confirmed: Charles Leclerc will take a new CE (control electronics) for this weekend. He receives a 10-place grid penalty.“
Now Leclerc has got himself in a tricky situation because it is not going to be easy to surge to the top after receiving the 10-place grid penalty.
Even if Leclerc is able to secure pole position during the Qualifying, the 24-year-old would only be able to start the Grand Prix from 11th at best, courtesy of FIA’s penalty.
Charles Leclerc has got a huge task on his hands for Canada
Charles Leclerc this season has made a habit of starting Grand Prix’s from the top spot as he has been prolific when it comes to single-lap pace.
The Monegasque has comfortably had the upper hand over the Red Bull duo of Verstappen and Perez and has outperformed them on most occasions.
However, Leclerc hasn’t been able to transpire his Qualifying form during Grand Prix weekends where he has got overtaken by the Red Bull duo.
The energy drink team is extremely strong in race sim and has got serious pace that Ferrari in the recent races hasn’t been able to come up with an answer for.
Now that Leclerc has got a 10-place penalty to his name, it is going to be absolutely crucial for him to secure pole position so that he can start the race from 11th, otherwise, the race could become a painful experience for him and the Ferrari Formula One team.
