Charles Leclerc and Ferrari have had a pretty up-and-down 2023 F1 season, where they have yet to score a Grand Prix win. The ongoing campaign is currently in its summer break, and ahead of the second leg, Leclerc has shed light on what his goals are going to be for the rest of the year.
Charles Leclerc came into the campaign with the hopes of having a serious go at the World Championship; however, just after 13 rounds, his push has run out of steam as he is nowhere in the title fight. The SF-23, to the surprise of many, hasn’t been able to produce a performance as per expectations.
The 25-year-old was recently asked to dwell on his goals for the rest of the 2023 campaign, and while talking about it, he told Motorsport, “I think the realistic goal we want to try to achieve is to be the strongest team after Red Bull, and at the same time try to close the gap. Then, if we talk about 2024, there is no doubt that in the mind of the whole team, the goal is to return to the top and fight against Red Bull.”
“A target that realistically, and I say this as a personal opinion, before the end of the ‘year we will not be able to achieve. The more realistic target will be to finish the season ahead of McLaren, Aston Martin, and Mercedes.” Ferrari is currently fourth in the Constructors Championship, with McLaren on the rise.

Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari deal is coming to a close in 2024
While Charles Leclerc has made it known that he wants Ferrari to finish second this year and that the goal for 2024 is going to be to challenge Red Bull for the Championship, one that should be taken note of is the fact that his current deal with the Italian team will come to a close at the end of the 2024 season.
The Fred-Vasseur-led Ferrari outfit rates Leclerc very highly and sees him as a mega talent at the pinnacle of motor racing. He has proven his mettle as an F1 racing driver often, and it would be in the best interest of the Italian team to renew his deal as early as possible because several groups will try and poach him next year.
However, one thing that goes in the favor of Ferrari is that Charles Leclerc wants to win a World Championship with Ferrari before thinking about going anywhere else. He has a soft spot for the team in his heart, and Fred Vasseur and Co. should do everything they can to keep him with them beyond 2024.
