Sergio Perez, the Red Bull F1 driver, has been racing for the Austrian outfit since 2021. He has so far not had the smoothest of rides with the team but despite this, has managed to hold on to his seat. With 2024 just around the corner, the Red Bull team principal, Christian Horner has claimed that the 2025 seat in Perez’s to lose.

Sergio Perez’s current deal with the Milton-Keynes-based team will come to a close at the end of the 2024 F1 season. There are quite a few candidates in the picture for the 2025 seat but Christian Horner and Co. are willing to back their current 33-year-old driver.

I think the luxury position we're in, is that we're not in any rush. We've got loads of options and I think it is Checo's seat to lose. He's the one that we're backing. He's our 2024 driver. And if he does a great job next year, there's no reason that we wouldn't extend him into 2025.
Christian Horner spoke via Motorsport about Sergio Perez’s chances of retaining his Red Bull seat.

Looking at the reaction of the 50-year-old, it is quite clear that they are going to back Perez to do well during the upcoming F1 season. If he performs as per expectations, Red Bull will be more than happy to extend the former 6-time Grand Prix winner’s contract.

Sergio Perez needs to do a solid 2024 F1 season

While Christian Horner has backed Sergio Perez to do well next year, the latter has really got no option but to perform. The grid is expected to close the distance to the Red Bull F1 team next year and considering this, Perez can’t afford the kind of slip-ups he had during this year’s campaign.

Perez has been making his trade at the pinnacle of motor racing for several years and has every time managed to come out of a tough spot. However, keeping in view how much he struggled behind the wheel of the RB19 this year, it will not be easy for him to produce consistent performances.

Sergio Perez has several times in the past made it known that he is very happy racing for the mighty Red Bull F1 team. He wants to race for them for as long as possible and in order to do this, he would really be required to pull up his socks during the all-important 2024 F1 season.
