Christian Horner compares Red Bull’s championship fight with Mercedes and Ferrari

Red Bull is engaged in the fight for the title this year against Ferrari. Last year, they were in a tussle with Mercedes, a fight that will be penned down as one of the most intense rivalries in F1’s history, as both teams went beyond the horizon to push their drivers for the championship. And Christian Horner, Red Bull’s team principal, has now drawn parallels between the two fights of the team.

Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen had plenty of accidents amongst themselves last year, and words were exchanged regularly between the management of their respective teams. But now their battle has found its replacement. It’s the year for Charles Leclerc v/s Max Verstappen. Both the drivers have engaged in good and fair battles at the front of the grid in the first three races, marking this year to be a battleground of the two forces- Red Bull and Ferrari. However, things appear to be different and cleaner this year

Horner commenting on the clean competition between Max and Charles, said to Motorsport.com, “I think they’ve grown up racing each other in karting and so on, and they know each other very well. They come from the same generation, and there is a genuine respect between the two of them,” hinting at the lack of respect between the two parties potentially being the reason of chaos.

Christian Horner believes Ferrari to be their main rival

Red Bull and Ferrari stand neck to neck in the constructors’ standings, miles ahead of the other teams. Both the teams appear to be the most stable and fast on the grid, with only Red Bull out of the two dealing with reliability issues.

Horner claims that it won’t be Mercedes, McLaren, or any other team that will be fighting with Red Bull for the whole year. He said, Ferrari have got a great car, they’ve got great drivers. They’ve been unlucky [at Imola]. But for sure they’re going to be super competitive in two weeks’ time [in Miami]. And I think it’ll be like that for the whole season.”

Ferrari currently stands at 124 points, 11 ahead of Red Bull. While Red Bull is improving and running from reliability issues, Ferrari seems to be caught in a gravel pit in the form of Carlos Sainz’s unfortunate luck, losing their hard-earned lead in the season opener.
