Adrian Newey joined Red Bull in 2005 after they entered Formula 1, having left McLaren. He led the design of their championship-winning cars, earning 11 Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships. Last year, he set new records with the RB18, securing both titles. In a recent interview, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner was all praise for his team’s Chief Technical Officer.
In an interview with Autosport, Horner stated that Adrian had been an exceptional contributor to their overall success. He mentioned that in the early days, they heavily relied on Adrian’s expertise and had assembled a team to translate his designs into cars swiftly. During the 2010-2013 period, with the support of individuals like Rob Marshall and other key personnel in the organization, Adrian accomplished remarkable achievements for the team.
“Adrian has been a phenomenal contributor to all of the success that we’ve had. I collected a team around Adrian to be able to deliver from his drawing board to the car as quickly as possible. People like Rob Marshall and other key people in the organisation in the 2010-2013 period, did an amazing job for us,” said the Red Bull team boss.
Being in the last year of his contract in 2023, Red Bull swiftly took action to ensure the continuation of Chief Technical Officer Adrian Newey‘s services beyond the current season. After 17 years with the team Christian Horner is hopeful that Newey will retire with Red Bull itself.

The hybrid era in Formula One was completely dominated by Red Bull’s former rivals Mercedes. Although Red Bull did see a fair share of success during this period, albeit not at the level of the Silver Arrows. Christian Horner revealed Newey’s disappointment over their team’s performance.
In the same interview, Horner mentioned that Newey went through a phase of disillusionment in the hybrid era when they couldn’t compete effectively. However, his interest in Formula 1 was revived once the engine performance improved. While he remained an important contributor, it was noted that the entire group had successfully evolved.
“He became a little disillusioned during the hybrid era when there wasn’t the ability to compete. Once the engine became more competitive his enthusiasm for Formula 1 returned. He’s been a key component, but of course, everything evolves, and I think what’s been one of the successes has been how the group has evolved,” stated Horner.
