“Clearly degrading and disregarding his efforts”: Twitter slams F1 TV for disgustingly mocking Daniel Ricciardo

Daniel Ricciardo

Daniel Ricciardo hasn’t had the best of times at McLaren, that much is without question. Since his move in 2021, Ricciardo has not been particularly able to keep up with Lando Norris, even though the move had come with very high expectations from both parties, and the fans as well.

His difficulty in adapting to the car has always been cited as one of the chief reasons for his performances not being up to the mark, and while that is certainly valid, it can only be the reason for so long before different options must be explored. Formula 1 waits for no one. Daniel Ricciardo has unfortunately learned that the hard way, and he will be replaced by Oscar Piastri next year.

He’s out of contract at McLaren at the end of the year, with no potential destination confirmed as of yet. He may stay in Formula 1, maybe he will take a sabbatical, or maybe he won’t return after that break. No one can tell for sure, perhaps not even him. He’s already in a hard situation right now, and it seems even the official F1 TV broadcast has taken to mock him, as evidenced by their ‘Struggling again’ graphic.

Fans: The graphic used to describe Daniel Ricciardo ‘A prime example of toxicity’

This graphic appeared on the screen during the pre-race preview. Contextual graphics are often used on the broadcast, but fans have criticized the use of this one in particular. It was certainly not a great weekend (post-race team radio here) for the Australian, as he was eliminated in Q1 and finished outside of the points. However, that does not mean the official broadcast, or anyone for that matter, have any right to mock him.

As such, the graphic has received a fair bit of criticism on social media, clearly being considered to be out of line, unprofessional and even disgusting. The graphic leaves a bad taste in the mouth, and fans have made their displeasure clear.

Fans were left questioning how this graphic was approved for the broadcast.

Formula 1 has made a commitment against toxicity, but fans feel that this graphic is a step backwards in this regard.

Daniel Ricciardo has definitely not had it easy at McLaren, and the performances are not amazing. But these types of graphics are clearly not going to help, and it looks like something more from Twitter itself than from an official Formula 1 broadcast.
