Ferrari aimed to quell pit stop mishaps in 2023 by planning 1,000 drills pre-season, surpassing their 2022 efforts. However, at the Dutch GP, their preparations stumbled as Charles Leclerc got entangled in a flawed pit stop. The chasm between ambition and reality was evident, exposing a stark disparity between intent and execution on the pit lane.
During the Dutch GP, Charles Leclerc experienced an agonizing delay as he sat through an unexpected 5-second pit stop, putting him in P17. While seeking to switch to intermediate tires due to changing weather conditions, his team encountered an unfortunate setback—the pit crew mistakenly brought the wrong set of tires. The error led to an extended stop, testing Leclerc’s patience and costing him valuable track position. A race DNF later in the race ultimately pulled Leclerc out of his misery.
Leclerc’s streak of misfortune extended from Saturday’s qualifying session. A frustrated Charles Leclerc clarified that his crash during the 2023 F1 Dutch GP qualifying wasn’t due to excessive pushing or surpassing limits. While on his second push lap with soft tires in Q3, the Ferrari driver helplessly slid off the track into the barriers, prompting a red flag.

X erupts as Fans slam Ferrari’s pit crew
A masterful display of coordination occurs as elite mechanics swiftly replace 42kg of rubber with fresh tires in seconds. In pit stops, a three-second delay is lackluster, while nearing 10 seconds is catastrophic. Ferrari has, time and again, ruined their drivers’ races with poor pitstops. These antics of the Scuderia have gained the spotlight on social media.
One user called Ferrari’s pit crew a joke because of their unpreparedness. They Tweeted, “CLOWNS ABSOLUTE CLOWNS.” A different user called for the removal of the pit-crew. “ALL OF YOU NEED TO BE FIRED FOR THAT PIT STOP,” they Tweeted. Another user ridiculed the team for forgetting their tires during a crucial stop, “ferrari think they can do a pit stop with NO TYRES.”
A different user suggested legendary F1 commentator Murray Walker to call Ferrari’s catastrophe. “Someone stick that Murray Walker audio over the clip of that Ferrari pit stop please, STICK IT ON AND SEND HIM OUT.” A user found the entire scenario funny from the perspective of the mechanics. “The mechanic on the front right was chilling,” they Tweeted.
Hope for a title challenge had been high at Maranello following a hopeful beginning last year. Regrettably, this season’s lackluster showing has left Ferrari securing the fourth spot in the Constructors’ Championship with 191 points. The pinnacle of the current year has been Charles Leclerc’s runner-up position in the Austrian Grand Prix.
