The 2022 Singapore Grand Prix was undoubtedly one of the most exciting and dramatic races of the season. A total of 6 drivers ended up retiring early from the race due to collision or mechanical errors, which goes to show how skillfully demanding the Marina Bay street circuit is.
One of the surprises from this race was George Russell’s poor performance and strategy throughout the race. He finished the race at P14 thus breaking his streak of finishing every race this season in the top 5 positions. One of the key moments during the race was when George Russell was stuck behind Mick Schumacher and the latter was defending against Russell not allowing him to overtake through the whole race.
While tailing behind Schumacher, George screamed into his radio saying, “Schumacher’s defending like it is the race of his life, crikey!”
This spiked the number of google searches for the word ‘crikey’ during the Singapore Grand Prix. The fans were clearly amused by this interaction and with the use of the word ‘crikey’ which made this situation somewhat hilarious.

The fans were very amused with George Russell’s choice of words against Mick Schumacher during the Singapore Grand Prix and it resulted in a surge in the number of Google searches for the word ‘Crikey.’ There have been discussions on Reddit as to the search spike as well.
Fans have commented on Reddit saying, “I associate Crikey with Australians more than Brits tbh. Had a boss that says it all the time,” While another fan commented, “Crikey is a level above Blimey.”
Various interesting comments were made on this topic such as, “This is peak content. Crofty better mention this stat this weekend,” another comment said, “Now this is a funny and clever use of google trends search.”
Russell faced some backlash from the fans after his radio call, as many believed that Mick had every right to defend against George since he was fighting for his career. George has been performing well all season but had a poor run at the Singapore Grand Prix, fans can’t wait for his future performances.
