Daniel Ricciardo breaks silence on ‘unfortunate and frustrating’ injury that ruled him out of the Dutch GP

Daniel Ricciardo returned to Formula 1 with AlphaTauri from the Hungarian GP. The Australian driver was signed by the Red Bull sister team to replace Nyck de Vries. The Honey Badger delivered some good performances before the F1 summer break. However, Ricciardo’s horrendous crash saw him being forced out of the Dutch GP weekend.
The Australian driver finally shared his views about the incident. Daniel Ricciardo explained that the reason for his broken wrist was a wheel that hit his hand after the crash. The 34-year-old did not get adequate time to remove his hands from the steering wheel. He said, as reported by Formula1.com, “When I hit the wall, I didn’t have enough time to take my hands off the steering wheel, so the wheel came and hit my hand.”
Ricciardo mentioned that it was an unlucky incident that frustrated the former McLaren driver. Although Daniel Ricciardo made it clear that he would try to get back in the AT04 cockpit as soon as possible. For now, the Australian driver will have to sit on the sidelines. The 34-year-old said, “It’s really unfortunate and frustrating, but I’ll try to recover as quickly as I can.”

Daniel Ricciardo happy to see Liam Lawson in AlphaTauri
AlphaTauri called up reserve driver and Red Bull junior Liam Lawson to serve as the Australian’s replacement for the Dutch GP. The Kiwi driver will be making his debut in an F1 GP at the Zandvoort Circuit. Ricciardo was happy for the young driver to get a chance in the sport. He continued, “It’s a chance for Liam to have a go, and I wish him and the team a strong weekend.”
Daniel Ricciardo reaffirmed that despite his will to return back quickly, the 34-year-old will ensure that he comes back in a proper manner. The Australian driver wants his return to be competitive and to not rush things. However, Ricciardo admitted that his injury forced AlphaTauri to change its plans till he could get back to full fitness.
Thus, Daniel Ricciardo has finally expressed his thoughts after getting a broken wrist. The Australian driver’s crash during Free Practice at the Dutch resulted in the injury for the 33-year-old and ruled him out of the cockpit for now. Fans would be eagerly waiting for the Honey Badger to recover and race for AlphaTauri once again in Formula 1.
