The Formula 1 has concluded its fifth round of the season and it was a spectacle at the Miami Grand Prix. The inaugural event in the city was hosted in the afternoon, under high temperatures. This made it a highly demanding race for everyone from the pit crew members to the drivers lapping around the street circuit. The drivers were reported to have had lost upto 3kgs after completing the race.
The new rules limit the minimum weight of the Formula 1 car to be 798kg. Numerous teams in the paddock find their package overweight and have made a number of efforts to reduce it. Removing the paint from the car and limiting the water in the drinks bottle are some of the methods adopted. At Miami, Daniel Ricciardo revealed that he was left severely dehydrated due to the Mclaren limiting his fluid quantity in the MCL36.

A Formula 1 car has a potential of storing upto 3 litres of water inside the car. Mclaren decided to only provide 1 litre of water to Ricciardo for the race to cut down the weight of the car. The Aussie opined on it by saying, “We don’t have the luxury of putting three litres in the drink system. So we have a little bit, and it’s never enough fluid. So naturally you’re gonna get dehydrated. And yeah, this heat was pretty real. They are the tough ones, obviously. Everyone obviously worked hard, it’s hot – drivers, mechanics, everyone’s feeling the heat.”
The honey badger crossed the chequered flag in P11 but got demoted to P13 due to an on track penalty. He reviewed his race by adding “Actually, when I crossed the line, I honestly thought I was 10th. It’s hard to know, obviously [there are] battles and cars going off here and there. I remember being side-by-side a few times with Haases, and it actually felt like we were having some good battles. But we came up short. I don’t think there were any ‘what could have beens’. We were just not quick enough. We were just hanging on.”
Daniel Ricciardo has had a rough start to his 2022 campaign. The driver currently stands P11 in the drivers world championship, having scored just 11 points. He has a deficit of 24 points to his team mate, Lando Norris who sits in P7 in standings. The Aussie looks forward to move on from the gruelling outing in Miami and has the support of each papaya fan to recover his form in the season ahead.
