Following his left hand injury, Daniel Ricciardo finds himself sidelined for this weekend’s Dutch Grand Prix and is likely to miss the upcoming Italian GP as well. This news comes two Grands Prix into his eagerly awaited Formula 1 comeback. Mclaren, his former team, conveyed their support and sympathy to the 33-year old.

McLaren CEO Zak Brown and Team Principal Andrea Stella expressed empathy for their former driver. Stella said, “It’s a real shame that he injured himself, It’s been great to see him back. We all have a great relationship with Daniel, we kind of support him, and it was also good to see was quite quick up until that point, I think he was setting some competitive lap times.”

Ricciardo was released by McLaren despite having a year left on his contract at the end of the previous season to make space for Oscar Piastri’s Debut in F1. Despite what appeared to be harsh circumstances, the Australian seems to have left left on good terms. The love and adoration that Danny Ric, as he’s lovingly referred to, garners from his fans and from the paddock alike speaks lengths on how the world of Formula 1 will dearly miss one of it’s brightest figures as it awaits his return.

The drama that unfolded leading upto the 2023 season between Alpine, Oscar Piastri, and Mclaren was quite befitting to be termed as a saga. At the end of this saga, Mclaren terminated Daniel Ricciardo’s contract early and announced the signing of Piastri as their driver for the season. Let’s take a look at how this decision has panned out for the Woking Wonders.

Piastri stepped into Formula 1 on the back of multiple championship wins in lower divisions. Pundits and fans alike had put heavy expectations on the back of the 22 year old and it’s suffice to say that he has exceeded many of those. Ignoring the Carlos Sainz shunt in Belgium, Piastri has scored points in every race since the Silverstone upgrades. only four drivers have scored more points than him in the last three races.

Now, although he’s trailing his teammate Norris in the championship by a considerable margin of 35 points, it looks as if Mclaren is happy with the trade. Mclaren expect a longer, flourishing partnership with Piastri than they did with Ricciardo, spanning multiple seasons, and as long as their rookie outperforms those who came before him, the British team will be delighted to have him.
