“Disappointed to not have more performance,” George Russell dissatisfied despite another podium finish at the Italian GP
George Russell
George Russell managed a brilliant P3 at the Italian GP. The race ended up in a very calm manner. George could have been in a serious struggle if things would have been concluded in a normal way. Anyhow, Russell managed his 7th podium of the season this time in a historical track, Monza.
George Russell started his race on P2 and managed to end it in a position below. It was due to the winner Max Verstappen passing to the top in a very quick manner. Russell has been inevitable with his performance, finishing all his races in the top 5 except Silverstone. With seven podiums in 15 races and one pole position, George is having a season of his own.
Mercedes weren’t really competitive at Monza with a poor low-drag package. Mercedes still managed an amazing P3-P5 finish to keep a fight for the second position in the championship. “Maximised our result, yes. But disappointed to not have more performance as a team. It was a strange weekend,” said George.

George Russell could finish a P2 in the championship
Mercedes have greatly improved with their race pace on the track that supports their car. George is just 16 points from Charles at P2. With Ferrari lacking at pace in the second half of the season, Mercedes could grab the Italian team for the second position in the constructor championship.
Charles Leclerc finished P2 at Monza but things weren’t really great for him. Max Verstappen managed to clinch another victory starting P7 in the grid. George was the only driver with a stable race that he went away with.
Though the race ended up with a safety car, George could have been in trouble with Carlos Sainz running behind him with a new set of soft tyres. Carlos is behind George in the championship and has a lot of work to do if he wants to catch Russell.
