The fifth season of the famous Netflix docuseries ‘Drive to Survive’ is finally here. The latest season showcases the viewers with behind-the-scenes footage of the 2022 F1 season. However, Alpine driver Esteban Ocon has called out the show for its clever editing during the fifth episode. The Frenchman accused the show of showing false radio messages after his drive at his home race.

The 26-year-old gave a brief summary of his opinion about the show. Esteban stated, “It’s reflecting reality, but in a strange way.” The Alpine driver gave the instance of the coverage for the French Grand Prix. Esteban Ocon said, “for example, I finished P8 in France, and I said, ‘this felt like a win today’. I never said that!” The Frenchman was unhappy with Drive to Survive’s cheeky portrayal of the race.

Further, Ocon explained that he had said that radio message during a different race when the Alpine driver finished in the top 5. Although Esteban Ocon strongly denied this to be from the race at Paul Ricard. The 26-year-old said, “I think I probably said that when we finished fifth in Austria or fourth in Japan, but not when I finished eighth in France.”

Moreover, the Frenchman expressed his view on such aspects of the show. He stated, “These things feel strange.” However, Esteban Ocon recognized the need for dramatization on ‘Drive to Survive’ as the series is a mainstay on streaming giant Netflix. Ocon admitted, “But I guess it’s part of the show. We can’t complain on being in such a high-viewed platform.”

The 26-year-old also emphasized his desire to win in Formula 1. Esteban declared, “I want to win.” Subsequently, the Frenchman did not want to be portrayed to the viewers as being satisfied with finishing eighth during a race. Esteban Ocon said, “I don’t want to make it sound like I’m happy with P8.” The Alpine driver also mentioned the lack of control over editing for the series.

Thus, Esteban Ocon seems displeased over his portrayal in the latest season of ‘Drive to Survive.’ Every F1 driver races to win, and unsurprisingly, mid-field drivers are usually not overjoyed with a P8 finish. As such, the show’s producers must recognize this fact and prevent such misleading coverage on the show.
