“Want to get faster” Esteban Ocon determined to catch the top three teams

Esteban Ocon, the Alpine driver, had a good 2022 season. The Frenchman outclassed his teammate and world champion Fernando Alonso and finished eighth in the driver’s championship. The 2023 season is important for Alpine as they have a French lineup. Ocon will be fighting alongside Pierre Gasly, his former karting rival.
Ocon had a strong season in 2022, he hopes to keep the momentum going and make progress. At the Alpine car launch, Ocon spoke about the team’s hard work, “We are all very proud of the work we have achieved and the bonus that we drove the car already” He expressed how happy he was getting back on track again.
“It’s been sensational to drive again, all those hours of work from these people. Thousands of people worked to deliver this car, it was amazing. To let it go out of the garage and go full throttle for the first time. That gave me the smile.” The Frenchman expressed his excitement about the run.
Oco’s primary goal going into the 2023 season is to catch up with the top three and finish consistently in the top 10. He added, “Last year has been a consistent season, stronger than when the team entered Formula 1 in 2021. We’ve scored strong results in the top 10 consistently, but obviously, we want to build on that. We want to progress and get faster. And catch the top three. The goal is to keep fourth and get closer to third.”

Ocon reflected on last season and admitted he felt pretty confident going into the new one. Though there is a certain level of satisfaction, the goal is to progress. The Frenchman hopes to close the gaps with Red Bull, Mercedes, and Ferrari. Alpine’s strong results in the previous year are considered an advantage for the upcoming season. While it might be a bold ambition, it is not impossible. Ocon is determined to close the gap and aim for podiums. However, to move forward collectively, the team needs to work together.
It is no secret that Ocon and Gasly had a strained past, but the duo has assured that they put it behind them. The Frenchmen are aware that they have to work closely if they want to be competitive. With Alpine finally launching their car, the A523, the car launches for the 2023 season have ended. Next up is the pre-season testing in Bahrain.
