“Everyone chooses for themselves, but I will not do it,” Ex F1 driver Nikita Mazepin makes a bold statement supporting Russia over competing in Motorsports

Ex Haas F1 driver Nikita Mazepin has been a bug on the windscreen called F1 all along his short lived career in the pinnacle of motorsport. The Russian driver’s contract was terminated by the at the start of the 2022 season. This whole incident took place in the month of March where not only the driver but also Urakali was contacted by team where they got to know that their contract has been terminated. There was a valid reason behind the termination of their contracts.
In lieu to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Nikita Mazepin and his father were sanctioned by the European Union and the United Kingdom for their ‘closeness’ to president Vladimir Putin. With the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, the Russian athletes are not allowed to participate in any international competitions signing a written statement condemning the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the acts that their country has done.
Only after doing so will they be allowed to take part in their particular sport. Some athletes have gone and taken a different nationality while Nikita Mazepin is not willing to compromise anything over his love for the Motherland. The driver furthermore sympathises with his fellow athletes who have chosen to sign the agreement and does not hold anything against them. He furthermore went on to talk about this situation.

“Everyone makes their own choice and it should be respected,” Ex F1 driver Nikita Mazepin states
Nikita gave his stance on the whole situation. “We are athletes. Everyone makes their own choice and it should be respected. Zhiltsov is not the only one, Robert Shwartzman did the same. It is a matter of personal considerations. Whether you want to give up your country for sport and it is more important to you or not, everyone chooses for themselves, but I will not do it,” he said.
The sanctions have affected all Russian athletes on a large scale and political pressure is always there making their life harder. Although Nikita Mazepin is adamant on not giving up and is fighting for change. He is of the opinion that what happened with him and other athletes is unjust and chooses to refrain from participating in international motorsport for the time being.
