The Swiss-based Sauber F1 team quit its partnership with Alfa Romeo after five years of being together. During the winter break, the team revealed its new name, title sponsors, and the chassis rebrand as part of its new identity for 2024.

Audi will enter F1 after acquiring a majority stake in Sauber by 2026. Therefore, the Swiss team must prepare for the German giant’s takeover of the outfit. Consequently, the partnership with Kick and stake.com is likely to stay for a mere two seasons. With the carmaker taking over the team’s entire identity soon.

However, the team rename is not the only noteworthy change in the team as Kick also received Chassis naming rights for Sauber. They plan to name the chassis for the upcoming 2024 season ‘Kick Sauber C44,’ integrating the title sponsor’s name into the consistent chassis naming series that Sauber has maintained since its inception in motorsports.

The partnership with Stake and Kick would prove beneficial for Sauber as well as Formula 1. Despite facing backlash from the majority of the fans, the authorities have finalized the name for the following season, confirming its continuation for at least another two years or until Audi enters the scene, whichever happens sooner.

Fans share their opinion over Sauber’s new name

In a recent tweet on X, the majority of the fans have decided to take a stance against Sauber’s new name. One fan claimed that this rename was the ‘cringiest name’ for an F1 team. Another fan termed the rename of the team as the ‘absolute worst’ name that they had ever heard in their life.

The general atmosphere for the fans was to negate the new name for the team. Another fan asserted that the rename from Alfa Romeo to ‘Kick’ to incorporate the new sponsors was a massive downgrade for Sauber. Another fan added that the rename was a surprise, albeit an underwhelming one as no one expected the team name to be ‘Stake F1 team Kick Sauber’.

As mentioned earlier, despite the backlash, the name has been sealed for the Swiss constructor going into the following season. Sauber needs to further work on developing the machinery and put their heads in the game in an attempt to revive any competition or winning chances for the team.
