The Canadian GP is one of the most highly anticipated races on the F1 calendar. The circuit has provided fans with some thrilling moments such as Jenson Button’s iconic win in 2011 or a furious Sebastian Vettel post-race in 2019. However, fans were unable to get a taste of complete of the first session as FP1 was suspended just minutes after the green flag.

Free Practice 1 started as per the schedule. Unfortunately, things turned for the worse when the session was red-flagged due to an issue with the local CCTVs. The FIA declared that the organizers were looking for a fix to resolve the problems. Until then, FP1 could not resume due to safety reasons. The only highlight till that moment was Pierre Gasly stopping his Alpine on track.

Fans were left disappointed as race control announced that FP1 would not be resumed. Instead, a 30-minute extension was given to the second practice session to allow for the teams to get mileage and fans to witness more running on the track. Valtteri Bottas topped the timesheets with the two Aston Martin cars of Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso in P2 and P3, respectively.

First time since 1995 I witnessed something like that. Shame on you!!!”

Another fan urged the FIA to bring back former Race Director and a rather infamous figure in the paddock, Michael Masi. While one user went as far as claiming that the 2021 Belgian GP was more exciting than Canada’s FP1, a race that saw virtually no laps of actual racing. The user stated, “Spa 2021 was entertaining compared to this.”
