The 2024 season will see a lot of changes in the grid of Formula 1. One such noteworthy change includes the renaming of Sauber as the team changes its title sponsors going into the next season. However, fans have highly denigrated the new name for the team.
The new name for the team was sealed as ‘Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber‘ thus showcasing the new title sponsors for the team and the discontinuation of sponsorship with Alfa Romeo. Hence, the new name was a mouthful for the majority of the people as they opposed this change in name.
The team has confirmed and locked the name, but fans are still not fully on board with this decision. Hence, Sauber has been trying hard to create hype with the renaming with multiple tweets and posts about the change in an attempt to familiarize the fans with the name.
The official X handle for Sauber posted a tweet about the renaming of the team in the form of a meme. The meme comprised of a ‘F.R.I.E.N.D.S’ reference with the character giving different reactions. The meme shows the person being shocked at the new name for Sauber unveiled by the FIA. Hence attempting to create a funny correlation between the two situations.
Fans trolled Sauber for this poor attempt at creating hype
The majority of the fans have massively trolled the Sauber team for this post. One fan questioned what the team was trying to portray through the post and commented, “What are yall on about.” Another fan asserted that they would call the team Sauber regardless of the new name for the team. A particular fan expressed mixed emotions over the rename as they commented, “I quite liked the horrendous name tho.”
Another fan in particular exclaimed that the name was horrible and called it garbage. They said, “It is garbage, sry.” Multiple fans added that they would commonly call the team Sauber despite the rename and said, “Everyone will call you Sauber anyway.” Others added that the rename and the hype around the new name was not as much of a flex as the team thought as it was a basic rename for the team.

We weren't expecting a basic team name, just not an absolutely horrendous one

I’m still going to call you Sauber no matter what it is.

Until everyone ignores the sponsor and just calls the team Sauber anyway

The atmosphere of the entire comment section is much like the fans worldwide as they do not seem completely on board with the rename. However, with the confirmed name, the team has to try to flip the fans in their favor and is desperately trying to do that. Hence, the PR activities for the team continue over the winter break.
