An open manhole cover on the track cut short the FP1 session on the Nevadan circuit of the Las Vegas GP. This open hole created major issues for the drivers during the practice session. Later, FIA cut short the session after eight minutes and did not resume it.

The manhole or the drainage hole caused issues for Zhou Guanyu and Esteban Ocon. Alpine had to change the entire chassis of the Frenchman’s Alpine A523 due to the serious damage to the car. Even Guanyu’s car hit the hole and produced sparks from the underbody.

Ongoing repairs on the track have caused a delay in the FP2 session. Multiple fans near the track observed that a temporary fix was made to the manhole cover, with holes being filled with cement. F1 is doing a lousy job fixing the cover and filling it with cement rather than welding the holes together.

The rains near the area could also pose a major problem for subsequent sessions because the track might not drain water properly. These issues could cause a major mix-up in the entire weekend schedule in the event of a contingency around the Nevadan circuit of the Las Vegas GP.

Fans troll F1 over the makeshift solution

In a recent tweet on X, multiple fans took quick note of the error from F1 and bashed F1 over this. One fan claimed this was a big fail by F1 as they did not weld down the drain covers. Another fan trolled F1’s net worth and claimed that an astonishing $18 Billion organization was resorting to such temporary fixes on the track during the race.

Another fan trolled F1 over the flashy shows at the opening ceremony and added that they were not concerned about the safety of the drivers. Other fans called this moment extremely embarrassing for F1 and the people responsible for hosting the Las Vegas GP. Multiple fans also questioned the issues that could be raised due to a covered manhole if it rains near the track.

It seems that the Las Vegas GP is in shambles due to the multiple failed incidents around the track. Majority of the fans trolled the opening ceremony as well and the cut-short practice session will surely cause issues to the drivers and teams in collecting data for the much cold Las Vegas GP track. Despite the challenges, F1 is continuing to work on the issues and try to provide a smooth sailing show to the fans.
