“Ferrari has a great car” : Christian Horner stays wary of rival threat despite Imola boost
Red Bull Racing's Team Principal Christian Horner
Although the RB-18 by Red Bull was plagued with reliability issues for the first few races of the Imola Grand Prix, the team has now gained some good insight into their car and has successfully improved it to achieve top results in the upcoming Grand Prix’s. The Red Bull Racing engineers introduced a batch of upgrades in their car at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, and that helped reigning World Champion Max Verstappen score a pole position, a Sprint Race win, as well as a Main Race victory in Italy.
With a triple win on foreign soil, Red Bull managed to beat Ferrari in their own home country’s Grand Prix, and that has impressed their fans. The Austrian team has achieved the first two positions in the Imola Grand Prix, and now the motorsport enthusiasts are all of the opinion that Red Bull has made a grand comeback, and they can aim for the Championship this year.
Yet, the Team Principal of Red Bull, Christian Horner, believes the Austrian Team is far from achieving the top spot in the Championship in terms of their performance right now.
Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner reckons Ferrari has more tricks up their sleeves
In the turbo-hybrid era of Formula 1, Red Bull acknowledged Mercedes as their chief opponent as the Stuttgart-based team has a history of winning the Constructors’ Championship for 8 consecutive times.
Even last year, Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes and Max Verstappen of Red Bull had one of the fiercest Championship battles in the history of Formula 1 for the Drivers’ Championship title. The rivalry went down till the very last race of 2021, where Max Verstappen outscored Lewis Hamilton and went on to clinch the Championship title. But now, the times have changed as Max is up against Charles Leclerc from Ferrari.
Going into the Miami Grand Prix, both Max and Charles have two race wins each as they aim for a third win in the US. While Red Bull seems very much in form after their performance in Imola, Christian Horner said, “It was important to close the gap to Ferrari. But for every pot you need the right lid.“
He further said, “Ferrari has a great car and two very good drivers, so everything has to be right if we want to beat them. They had bad luck in Imola. I am convinced that they will hit back in Miami.“
