Mohammed Ben Sulayem has come forward recently and backed Andretti Cadillac’s bid to enter the pinnacle of motor racing. The sport’s governing body earlier in the year, launched an Expressions of Interest process with the final decision on the expansion of the grid expected at the end of July.

The way things are panning out at the F1 headquarters, there is a chance of having 12 teams in the sport and the most promising bid so far has been of the Andretti Cadillac group. Moreover, the former racing driver turned entrepreneur, Mario Andretti is desperately pushing to find a spot on the grid by the start of the 2025 season.

Mohammed Ben Sulayem, ahead of the upcoming British GP was asked to dwell on the same, and he told racingnews365, “People have to understand we are here to promote motorsport and we are here to be fair. The Expressions of Interest process is very robust and there is no circumstance where we can deny any teams if they fulfill the criteria to enter.”

Sulayem has made it absolutely clear that there is no way in which F1 can deny anyone entry as long as their proposal is within the norms. As long as the criteria as getting fulfilled, no one can really stop a potential team from submitting an official bid with the hope of entering the pinnacle of motor racing soon.

While a lot has been said about Andretti Cadillac’s chances of making it to the pinnacle of motor racing, Mohammed Ben Sulayem believes that their arrival will be good for the growth of the sport. While talking about the same, he added, “Imagine me saying no to someone like GM? We have in the regulations that we can go up to 12 teams. I’m not breaking [rules]. But do we allow anyone to enter? No. But how on earth can we refuse GM.”

I mean, where’s the common sense in this? GM is a heavyweight and when they come with Andretti, that’s good for all of us.” The FIA President has openly backed the bid of Andretti Cadillac and sees them as a team that would add a lot of value if given an opportunity to show what they can do.

Andretti Cadillac and F1 saga have been going on for several months now but considering that a decision is expected by the end of this month, it is going to be fascinating to see what the hierarchy of the sport decides to do. Until then, speculation is going to keep making the rounds around the two parties.
