FIA President poses ‘No Manipulation’ rule as he declares final deadline for announcement of new F1 teams
The final decision on the entry of new team in Formula 1 is just five or six weeks away, according to Domenicali.
The schedule for the final call on potential new teams who want to join Formula 1 has been updated by FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, who also warns that the federation “cannot manipulate anything” to increase the size of the grid at present. IN FEBRUARY, the FIA launched the application process for potential new F1 teams, allowing the governing body to find one or more new teams to join the current grid.
The Andretti Cadillac was at the centre of the continuing dispute, with Michael Andretti openly stating his intention to enter the tournament despite opposition from the present group of teams. The FIA President has since issued a status report on the timetable for these potential teams, stating that F1 would also be part of the decision-making process and that a final decision should be reached within the next “four to six” weeks.
“I hope we can make the announcement next month,” said the FIA President,Ben Sulayem . “We are talking about serious people and we don’t want to exclude anyone without a thorough review of the applications we have received”. “We are talking about big names and big money. I think the letter of intent was the right decision”.
New Dawn for Formula 1 as a Potential 11th team entry might be on the way
Sulayem insisted that they need an automobile manufacturer and A-class teams, not just any team: Manufacturers are preferred by the administration since it would benefit the sport. He said they’ve taken their time, the FIA team has put a lot of effort into the letter of intent, and have met with the teams to review their bids. As a result, Bin Sulayem believes that they will have a definitive decision in four to six weeks.
These are exciting times for both the fans of the sport and stakeholders as the news may break soon about the arrival of new teams on the grid if there is any potential at all. Certainly, General Motors entering Formula One and with other rumoured teams with Porche Being another brand associated with F1 will make the sport huge given the American Market that has been untapped by Formula 1.
