Helmut Marko has been heavily criticised for the comments he made while interacting with ServusTV. Marko’s disdain towards Sergio Perez’s assumed heritage has finally been addressed by the FIA. The FIA has issued a written warning to Marko concerning his racial comment.

The FIA says“We can confirm that Helmut Marko has received a written warning and been reminded of his responsibilities as a public figure in motorsport in line with the FIA Code of Ethics.” Marko claimed that Perez’s lack in consistency was due to his heritage. The Red Bull Advisor wrongfully labelled the Mexican driver ‘South American’ and continued to express his dismay with Perez. Marko claimed, Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen, German and Dutch respectively, didn’t have the consistency problem because of their European Heritage.

Sergio Perez insisted that he wasn’t offended with the Remark, claiming the duo had a private conversation in which Marko apologised. It’s to be wondered if the FIA’s response seems a ‘little too less, little too late’ as questions about ‘if it was someone else making the remark – would the FIA be more stringent?’ come to mind.

Russell was on a hot lap in the Friday Practice session when he encountered Perez cruising around on the racing line ahead of him. The Mercedes driver was furious as he made a ‘flipping-off’ gesture and cursed the Red Bull driver over his team radio, “He’s a ***.”

The Mexican did seem to move out of the way but it was too late for Russell as his hot lap was compromised. Russell seeks to seal Mercedes as the bridesmaid this season while Perez looks to prove his mettle in the blistering Red Bull.
