Former F1 engineer alleges Red Bull are displaying faux RB20 to throw enemies off their scent ahead of 2024 campaign
Former F1 engineer has given out details to explain why she thinks the Red Bull car that the fans have gotten a glimpse of already might not be their actual 2024 challenger.
Red Bull have recently unveiled their 2024 challenger to much discussion amongst the fans and the followers. While their car is said to be developed with a slightly ‘unconventional’ approach as per the senior team members, there has been growing contemplation regarding the similarity between the all-new RB20 and Mercedes‘ car for 2023–the W14. While Mercedes could not manage to get their car to race with the ‘rocketship’ RB19 last year, fans wonder if Red Bull will also see a dip in their performance since their car is similar to the Silver Arrows challenger.
However, ex-F1 strategy engineer Bernie Collins has refused to buy into the theories that Red Bull simply copied Mercedes’ car from last year to build their new challenger. She believes the current F1 Championship-winning team might be resorting to some tricks to deceive their rivals ahead of the 2024 season. Red Bull’s biggest strength lies in their car and their driver Max Verstappen. If the rivals get an idea of what the Austrian team has in store for the upcoming campaign, they might imitate it.
Thus, Bernie Collins has claimed Red Bull might have released a fake version of their actual F1 car which will only take to the racetrack once the Bahrain GP weekend hits the shores.
I think maybe years in F1 have made me suspicious, so let’s see the car (Red Bull RB20) that rolls out on Day One in Bahrain because I’m not sure it’s going to be that car.Bernie Collins said, as reported by Express Sports UK.
Bernie Collins believes it would be brave of Red Bull if they continue 2024 campaign with the RB20
While Red Bull have been wildly successful in the recent years in F1 due to their excellent pair-up of Max Verstappen and Adrian Newey‘s masterpiece racecars, the team has decided to take a completely new course ahead of 2024. The cars the Austrian outfit has developed till last year followed a certain pattern that has not been spotted in the RB20. And Bernie Collins believes that if Red Bull is actually not showing this car to dupe their rivals and they really take to the racectracks with the RB20 that they have revealed at the car launch, then it will be a ‘brave’ move on their part.
If they (Red Bull) do rock up with that car (RB20), then it’s a brave, brave move because they could have easily continued to develop the car they had.Bernie Collins said, as reported by Express Sports UK.
In other news, there seems to be turmoil in the team dynamics of Red Bull since Christian Horner, their team boss, is currently implicated in a sexual misconduct case. While nothing has been proven yet, an internal investigation committee is currently looking into the allegations that a female employee had made against Horner. And the team’s Chief Advisor Helmut Marko, instead of defending his longtime friend and collaborator, actually applauded Red Bull for taking swift action by putting the investigation into place.
