Fred Vasseur breaks silence on his leadership strategy at Ferrari, claims he unleashes ‘tough side’ in front of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc
Frederick Vasseur states that he has a tough side opposed to his calm personality in the paddocks.
Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur who is known for having a very calm and cool personality, especially in the paddocks says his tough side is reserved for Monday morning meetings with the drivers – Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc.
Vasseur says he does not believe in discussing stuff publicly and would rather do it in private. In the interview, he also sheds light on his relationship with the top management at Ferrari. He says he is in close contact with the CEO and is on call with the President almost every day.
He says that establishing a relationship with top management is very helpful as it makes the process of decision making quite smooth.
Vasseur recently took over as the team principal of Scuderia Ferrari after the previous team principal Mattia Binotto resigned. Out of all the areas Vasseur claims he has worked on, the most significant according to him is making the internal communication process easy and quick. He even addresses his time over at Renault where the communication with executive management members was very time consuming and he would have to wait for a long period of time for the response
Fred Vasseur, in the interview, says, “You will never see my tough side when I have to say certain things to a member of the team. I’m not emotional. I discuss face to face, for me it makes no sense to do these things in public. On Monday mornings they hear from me often, but with a precise list of things to do and not in front of reporters for a one-man show that doesn’t help anyone.”

Ferrari’s disappointing season so far
Ferrari has had a very disappointing season so far. Last year, when Charles Leclerc finished 2nd in the world championship standings, this year he came back with the hope of changing the second into first. The season has been so poor that in most of the races, its quite difficult for him to even advance to Q3.
In fact a lot of controversies have been surrounding Scuderia Ferrari this season, especially the one including the tassel between Leclerc and his engineer over which tire to use. The Monaco born driver has been quite critical of the team for which he has been called out by the team principal, Fred Vasseur for being impulsive.
The one race where Ferrari managed to start on pole also turned out to be an utter disappointment. Ferrari was not even able to keep the lead for 1 lap. They were overtaken by Max Verstappen’s Red Bull in just a matter of seconds.
Ferrari currently stands in 4th position in the constructor’s championship with the drivers, Charles Leclerc and Carloz Sainz standing in 5th and 7th position respectively. So even if Fred Vasseur claims he has been having tough Monday morning meetings, it certainly does not reflect so in the results.
