Lewis Hamilton and George Russell recently extended their Mercedes contract until the end of the 2025 season. The Silver Arrows have begun their preparation for the next season of F1 as the team continue their search for their first victory in the current 2023 campaign. Russell, meanwhile, is supposedly being paid lesser than the 7-time World Champion.

The 25-year old Brit was paired with Williams’ Alex Albon for a SkySports interview recently. There, the Thai-British driver asked Russell, “Salary good? I’m asking, just asking. The young racer who was previously employed at Williams said, “It’s fair. Toto said if we both walk away a little bit disappointed then I think that’s fair.” Then, the Mercedes driver was asked if Lewis Hamilton’s salary was the same as his, and he replied jokingly, “Maybe a few less zeros.”

Recent reports suggest that Lewis Hamilton is slated to earn £100 million across two seasons from his latest Mercedes contract alone. This piece of news comes as no surprise since the seven-time World Champion pulls in the majority of the sponsors for the Brackley outfit. But on the other hand, a hard-to-digest fact is that George Russell is the one who has won Mercedes their sole victory since 2021.

Mercedes sit in P2 in the constructor’s championship. Their Ace – Hamilton recently claimed The Italian GP at Monza to be the toughest race of the season for himself. But Hamilton eyes a much better performance as the Formula 1 circus prepares for the Marina Bay.

He was reported saying, “I feel like this [Monza] might be the worst one for us. Singapore is all high downforce and, when we put our high downforce wing on, we generally are a little bit better. Not as bad as here. So I hope I’m right.”

Lewis Hamilton’s hopes rely on the Singapore GP as the Marina Bay Street Circuit is a high-downforce track. It will be interesting to see how much of a performance gap can the Silver Arrows close down come the Singapore GP.
