Daniel Ricciardo took to the track at Silverstone for the first time in the Red Bull RB19 during a two-day Pirelli tire test. The media see this test as Ricciardo’s audition for a potential return to Red Bull. The Australian driver, after cutting his McLaren contract short, moved over to his previous team Red Bull at the end of last year.
Daniel Ricciardo, eager to make a comeback to Formula 1 next season, has expressed his openness to racing for AlphaTauri if it paves the way for a future opportunity with Red Bull. However, Ricciardo had not yet driven the 2023 car on the track. Hence there are uncertainties about whether Ricciardo has recovered from his difficulties at McLaren and regained his previous form.
The testing involved laps with Pirelli’s potential 2024 tires, designed to eliminate the need for tire blankets. Over two days, the eight-time grand prix winner began his running and evaluation. The honey badger’s return on track again sparked rumors of him replacing the struggling Sergio Perez.

Fans mock Sergio Perez as Daniel Ricciardo tests with Pirelli at Silverstone
Daniel Ricciardo, the charismatic F1 driver, has a special place in the hearts of fans worldwide. His genuine personality and remarkable racing talent have endeared him to millions. Their unwavering loyalty is evident as his fans support him even as a third driver at Red Bull. F1 fans erupted on Twitter as Red Bull posted pictures of the Australian in the RB19.
Many users emphasized how normal it felt having Ricciardo back on track with Red Bull. “It just feels so right, best of luck Daniel,” one Tweet read. While a different Tweet echoed the same message, “Back in a red bull where he belongs!!!” A different user, however, did not miss out on a chance to mock Sergio Perez’s poor form. “His doing lap times to see if his faster then Perez,” their Tweet read.
Another user suggested that the Red Bull heads will watch the test closely. “Christian Horner and Helmut Marko are watching closely…” They Tweeted. One user hoped the Australian would replace Checo, Tweeting, “Get him in Perez’s car.” However, Tweets of support and encouragement flooded the internet for Ricciardo. “Great to see that number on that car again,” a user Tweeted.
With Nyck de Vries performing poorly at Red Bull’s sister team AlphaTauri, a move to the Faenza remains an option for Daniel. Daniel Ricciardo still has McLaren’s last race win after taking the chequered flag at the 2021 Italian Grand Prix.
